Load Cell (

The load cell is a transducer used to convert a physical pressure in electric pulses.

Consisting of a metallic body that acts as a pressure receiver, load cells are found in several metering equipment.

The body of the load cell is made of carbon or stainless steel. Its shape makes it possible that when deformed on contact, it changes the electric resistance through the strain gauge, which is positioned on top of the body.

Strain gauge is an electric resistance that changes its value when submitted to physical strains, and due to this resistance alteration, the deformation is measured.

Typically, the load cells have extensometers and the resistance change is measured using a Wheatstone bridge. Besides their commonly used function in weighing processes, they also are used for other applications, such as control for classification processes, filling and dosing.
